The Video
A furniture van, a lightweight camera and a mass of cables - just three of the things you shouldn't see on any Antiques Roadshow. Going behind the scenes when the programme visited Ventnor on the Isle of Wight revealed a programme as carefully crafted as some of the objects that turned up. Producer IAN PAUL (R)

When the Prince of Wales described the proposed extension to London's National Gallery as 'a monstrous carbuncle on the face of a much-loved friend', the plans were dropped and the search began for a different and more traditional concept. The architect charged with finding a way back to the future of this important national building, and of its environment -
Trafalgar Square - was
American Robert Venturi. His anti-modernist credentials are impeccable and he is the author of Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture, the Bible of post-modernism. This documentary looks at how Venturi approached the National Gallery project and travels with him and his architect wife to review their work in America and Europe.
