Britain's schools are undergoing their biggest shake-up since the Butler Act of 1944. As schools begin implementing the National Curriculum, teachers claim the reforms are so ill-conceived and badly organised that many of them have decided to leave education altogether. What's more, from next April schools will begin to run their own budgets and compete for pupils. The Government says that will make them more efficient; headteachers are worried they will be forced to put business before education. Is the speed and scope of change jeopardising the chances of success?

Crossing this spectacular Andean landscape they meet the remote high-altitude Indians.
