The great white shark is one of the world's most feared beasts.
Now, star of three Hollywood movies, victim of considerable persecution and bane of beach resorts the world over, it remains to the public and scientists alike, a fascinating and terrifying enigma.
This World About Us film looks at the great white shark - the myth and the reality; and in particular examines its often gruesome relationship with man.

Battersea Dogs Home
Christmas is the time people rush out and buy puppies as presents. New Year is the time many of them realise they have made a mistake.
The Dogs Home at Battersea always has to cope with the aftermath of Christmas. Today, however, is just another day. As usual the place is packed - 450 dogs either lost or kicked out by their owners. It's a film reflecting the sad moments and the joy when dogs are re-united with their owners or taken away from it all to start new lives.

starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau
When Trabucco , a hitman for the mob, checks into the Ramona Hotel he has only one contract to fulfil - Rudy 'Disco' Gambola. Unfortunately for the lugubrious killer, Victor Clooney - a would-be suicide - has checked into the adjoining room and his frantic attempts at self-destruction continually interrupt the assassin's plans. Wilder's acerbic last film is a characteristically manic monument to bad taste, lampooning many ideals western civilisation holds most dear.
