Stanley Kubrick's epic space adventure starring Keir Dullea Gary Lockwood At the dawn of mankind, a tribe of apes discover a mysterious monolith. Four million years later, a similiar object is found on the moon, beaming signals to Jupiter. A nine-month voyage to follow the signals is launched, with two astronauts manning a huge spaceship and three others in a state of hibernation. The crew is disturbed to discover that
Hal, the ship's computer, has a mind of its own ...
Made before man had set foot on the moon, Kubrick's dazzling vision of the future is astounding in both its philosophical speculation and visual design.

'The greatest success of my life,' declared Weber, after the triumphant London premiere. Its subject is an adventure story of true love tested by adversity, in a variety of colourful locations from Baghdad to Tunis.
It's a splendidly exotic and impractical concoction, blending elements of chivalry, pantomime and magic, including encounters with pirates, mermaids and fairies. (Oberon has a distant kinship with Shakespeare's
A Midsummer Night's Dream.) This lively new production commemorates the bicentenary of Weber's birth. It was conceived by Frank Dunlop and seen at Tanglewood and the Edinburgh Festival in this year before being recorded at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt. It proposes some surprising solutions to the legendary difficulties of staging Oberon. The orchestra, for example, is lifted out of the pit and placed centre-stage, at the heart of the action.
