When the tigers in the hills of Kumaon turn from their natural prey to taking human life, the villagers send for help to naturalist and big-game hunter Jim Corbett. But it is the late 1920s and Jim is in his 50s. He now realises it is the great elephant drives and slaughter for sport that are seriously endangering the animal he describes as 'a large-hearted gentleman with boundless courage'.
