Roots
A Musical Journey
Narrated by BOB EVERHART
An American phenomenon of recent years is the explosion of interest in folk music. In Bicentennial year Americans celebrated their 200 years of independence through the folk music and dance of their forebears. They began to rediscover their roots in the origins of that music.
In 1980 there were 1,600 events around the country. The World About Us visited major folk festivals in three contrasting regions of the country and met some of the performers on their home ground.

by Mozart
A Comedy with Music in One Act starring Giuseppedi Stefano as Luciano Bufforotti, Patricia Wise as Beverley Silvertone, Nan Christie as Elisabeth Herzkopf, Patrick Cargill as the Impresario in a version for television by Francis Coleman, Kenneth Corden.
First performed in 1786, Mozart's charming little comic opera concerned the rivalry of two warring sopranos (Silberklang and Herz) and the difficulties of the Impresario (Der Schauspieldirektor) in settling the prima donnas' differences while attempting to assemble a troupe.
The original spoken dialogue was intended as a satire on contemporary theatrical practices. This particular version starts afresh by placing the Impresario's interminable backstage wheeler-dealing in the present television age.
A Yesterday's Witness series of six programmes.
4: Wings over Waziristan
In 1937, on the North West Frontier, there was an uprising of Wazir tribesmen led by the Fakir of Ipi. The British army sent in columns of troops and the RAF went in as support. A young Air Force officer, Group Captain Robert Lister , who had just acquired a cine camera, filmed these punitive operations both from the air and on the ground. This programme consists of Lister's stories and his unique film.

Tortured to reveal the name of her lover, the young daughter of General El Jefe gives the name of Alfredo Garcia. The wealthy land-owner offers a million dollars in exchange for Garcia's head. The ensuing search takes four of his henchmen and a down-and-out pianist, Bennie, into the depths of Mexico, where their greed and animosity lead to murder and a savage confrontation. Director Sam Peckinpah has created a characteristic world of treacherous relationships and a study in obsession bordering on insanity.
