Roots
A Musical Journey
Narrated by BOB EVERHART
An American phenomenon of recent years is the explosion of interest in folk music. In Bicentennial year Americans celebrated their 200 years of independence through the folk music and dance of their forebears. They began to rediscover their roots in the origins of that music.
In 1980 there were 1,600 events around the country. The World About Us visited major folk festivals in three contrasting regions of the country and met some of the performers on their home ground.
