When the Club Intime is taken over by vice boss Johnny Vanning , the club's hostesses resign themselves to paying up for 'protection ' and keeping silent when they become involved in murder. But when the kid sister of one of the girls is killed by Vanning, she is determined to expose him-whatever the cost.
Based on the career of Lucky Luciano, this unusual gangster melodrama highlights the predicament of the girls who testified against him.

When John Fielding , MP, disappeared on the way home to his country estates he was, perhaps, cracking the first good joke of his life. Sergeant Jennings, left to pursue the investigation, finds little humour or help amongst Fielding's friends or family. Only Isobel could believe that Fielding might have wanted to disappear.
