The master comedian from the golden age of silent comedy in excerpts from the films that thrilled and entertained a generation. Harold wins a live turkey whilst shopping and faces the problem of getting it home on a crowded streetcar in Hot Water. Then, dodging a persistent land-lady, in Bumping into Broadway, he is hilariously chased by cops raiding a gambling-joint.

A second series of ten programmes presented by Delia Smith

Home-made soups, says Delia Smith, win hands down over the bought version for flavour and economy, and are not nearly as much bother to make as they sometimes sound. The basis of most soups is a good stock which Delia demonstrates in this programme, and shows how it can give extra special flavour to such - wholesome and comforting soups as French onion and minestrone.

Presented by Angela Rippon who each week introduces us to the people, places and wildlife that make life in the country so appealing.

Can the English village continue to offer a future to those who would prefer to earn their living away from our towns and cities? Many of the traditional trades and crafts that we associate with the countryside have gone into decline. How can we create new opportunities?

This week Angela is joined by Phil Drabble, Bernard Price and Gordon Beningfield, to look at some successful rural crafts and industries that have their roots firmly in the countryside - bricks from a farm in Suffolk, briar pipes from Wiltshire, and fishing flies from Devon.

Verses from the Gold Rush
[Starring] Fulton Mackay

'A bunch of the boys were whooping it up in the Malamute saloon....' The characters and the settings of the Last Great Gold Rush. In 1898 the discovery of gold drew to the Klondike adventurers and prospectors from all over the world. After them came a little Scottish bank clerk - Robert Service, who turned the tales of the High North into lively verse. He sold over a million copies of his first book.

This programme, filmed on location in the Yukon, tells the story of the Gold Rush through the eyes of Robert Service, with dramatised scenes of his life, with verse and with the astonishing still photographs taken on the Arctic trails and in the riotous gold towns by the early photographers.
