People of the Poppy
To save itself from its own savage heroin addiction, the West has persuaded the East to attack the problem at source -the opium fields of Northern Thailand. In doing so, a traditional way of life for the ' People of the Poppy I - the hill tribes of Thailand - is being destroyed.
This film. looks at one of these tribes -the MeQ, their traditional way of life, their dependence on opium as their only cash crop and the efforts being made by the King of Thailand and his Government with the help of the United Nations to introduce economic replacement crops, modern medicine and an education for a new life.
If and when the projects are successful the law of Thailand will be enforced. The poppy will go - and with it the rich cultures it sustained and shiaped.

starring Jon Voight.
'A' is a philosophy student who has been disowned by his family for belonging to the Radical Party, a political organisation with which he is already disillusioned. At the same time as he offers his services to a revolutionary group, he becomes fascinated by a girl from a rich, bourgeois family.
Jon Voight gives a beautifully judged performance as the middle-class student who finds revolution easy to preach but harder to practise in Paul Williams's timeless picture of youthful radicalism.
Screenplay by Hans Koningsberger from his novel The Revolutionary.
