Brazilian-born Cristina Ortiz was eight when she entered the Brazilian Conservatoire of Music and she played with the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra three years later. She subsequently studied in Paris with Magda Tagliaferro , and with Rudolf Serkin. She has won several major prizes. She first appeared in London in 1973, playing at the South Bank Summer Music Festival. Her British concerto debut and her first gramophone recording were both with the London Symphony Orchestra and Andre Previn.
