A personal view of childhood in different societies: five programmes by URIE BRONFENBRENNER
2: What did you learn in school today?
All of the societies we have been looking at send their children to school but what each expects to achieve by separating children from their families and putting them in the care of teachers is very different. In Russia and China where education is public business, the lesson is character development and ideology. In our own country we hope that developing the potential of each individual will benefit society as a whole.
