A personal view of childhood in different societies: five programmes by URIE BRONFENBRENNER
2: What did you learn in school today?
All of the societies we have been looking at send their children to school but what each expects to achieve by separating children from their families and putting them in the care of teachers is very different. In Russia and China where education is public business, the lesson is character development and ideology. In our own country we hope that developing the potential of each individual will benefit society as a whole.

Robert Robinson introduces a weekly look at hardbacks and paperbacks, fact and fiction, best-sellers and remainders. The Bestseller
Since most novels do not sell in great numbers, publishers are constantly hoping to find a new Frederick Forsyth , whose first novel The Day of the Jackal shot straight to the top of the best-sellers list and earned him a fortune.
How does an author cope with immediate success?
Peter Benchley , the American journalist and broadcaster, whose novel Jaws made him a rich man after the sale of paperback and film rights, is in the studio with Gerald Seymour - ITN reporter whose novel Harry's Game already shows signs of becoming a bestseller.
