Elephant Kingdom
Narrated by David Attenborough The Kingdom is Thailand : and in the wars of the past, in the work of the present, and in the worship of all time, the elephant has always been a mighty force in this land. This film examines the relationship between man and beast in these three fields, but it concentrates most on work, and on four elephants in particular. First a baby only a few weeks old: then schooldays and a young elephant learning to obey: next a 20-year-old elephant working in a felling camp: and finally a great tusker at the height of his power, working deep in the vast teak forests of Thailand. To complete the picture is the pageantry of bygone war parades, and the golden elephant temples of the north.

Sir Georg Solti conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra leader RODNEY FRIEND in a performance of Elgar's Symphony No 2 in E flat
Elgar is sometimes regarded as the composer of jingoistic, ' Land of Hope and Glory ' music - often at the expense of his most significant works. Sir Georg Solti regards the Second Symphony as one of the great symphonies of this century.
