Strange Creatures of the Night Narrator Hugh Falkus
Vampire bats, hyenas and owls have one feature in common: they hunt under cover of darkness.
Until recently it was impossible to film these creatures of the night in action. By using new techniques in high speed and night photography, a whole range of intriguing animal behaviour that has seldom been seen before is revealed by the special cameras. Now we can watch a pack of hyenas stalking their prey by night; a bat ' fishing ' using echo location in the dark; the strange blind creatures that live deep beneath the earth's surface; and the dreaded vampire bat seeking its victims in the dead of night.

Less lack of imagination than ever before
With rare humility, Beethoven thus described what had gone into the last of his major compositions: the five late String Quartets and the ' Grosse Fuge. '
This week BBC2 is showing the complete cycle on five consecutive evenings. As an introduction to the series Robert Simpson suggests the remarkable variety, beauty and force in these quartets, and in particular looks at the B flat Quartet, Op 130.

Like Hitchcock , Fritz Lang is a master of suspense. In tonight's thriller he uses Joan Bennett as the femme fatale who captivates a mild-mannered professor, beautifully played by Edward G. Robinson , and involves him in a web of murder and deception.
