Return to Sicily
They come from Sicily, home of the Mafia and the vendetta. Now, like 2,000 other Italians, the Nicastro family live in Waltham Cross, a London suburb.
Every year, if they can afford it, they return to their village, Sutera. It is ancient and poor, dignified and slow to change, clinging on to the steep sides of a mountain.
The few young men who remain in Sutera feel themselves marooned in the past and plan their escape, while those who went away, like MELO NICASTRO , know that something has been lost-because it will soon be back to the production line and the constant question: must this always be the price of progress?
Producer RICHARD TAYLOR
