An opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Libretto by LORENZO DA PONTE
English version by EDWARD J. DENT The action takes place in one day at the house of Count Almaviva, near Seville.
Figaro, the popular barber of Seville, has entered the service of the Count of Almaviva and wants to marry the Countess's maid Susanna.
However, the Count, who has an eye for the ladies - especially Susanna - does his best to thwart the barber. Figaro's life is further complicated by Marcellina, the elderly housekeeper to Dr Bartolo, who claims Figaro's hand as payment of a debt. She is backed in her claim by the Doctor.
