This programme describes the peacetime duties and recreations of a soldier in a Roman Legion - the Third Legion Augusta. Serving the Emperor Trajan, around 100 AD, this force controlled the relatively passive province of Numidia, the modern Algeria.
ROBERT ERSKINE reveals the character of the Legionary's life in barracks, and then follows him into retirement.

The Candidate has been selected as Labour's prospective Member for Braintree. He is nearer achieving his life's ambition now than he has ever been before. His chance came on 28 February 1974. Also in the field were two strong rivals -the Conservative and the Liberal. The last obstacle would be the hardest, for Braintree was a highly marginal seat.
