This summer Margaret Powell, once a kitchenmaid, 'did' the London Season-that period between May and the end of August when debs come out, champagne flows, sportsmen and society mingle at the big summer events and, hopefully, the sun shines. She visited events as different as a deb cocktail party and the Henley Royal Regatta, commenting, talking and, of course, laughing. She says she enjoyed every moment of her Season - but wishes she had 'come out' 50 years earlier.
