A film about an extraordinary man and the geese that thought he was one of them
For 50 years Lorenz has been demonstrating amazing parallels between the behaviour of geese and men. His ideas have inspired many biologists, caused others to regard him as a heretic, and, through such books as King Solomon's Ring, set up such a wave of public interest in animal behaviour that 'ethology' has become a smart word to use.
As Lorenz approaches 70 and retirement, this film shows his continuing work with a team of helpers - all followed by families of goslings convinced that they are under the wing of a real goose...

Conductor Sir Georg Solti
One of a series of films featuring the world's leading orchestras
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1891 by the German-born musician Theodore Thomas and at one time enjoyed the reputation of being 'the best provincial orchestra in the world.' Georg Solti became its permanent conductor in 1969 and in 1971 the orchestra left the United States for the first time to a tumultuous European reception, confirming what Chicago already knew-here was a great orchestra.
The music extracts include:
Mahler Das Lied von der Erde (With Yvonne Minton)
Beethoven Symphony No 9
Mozart Symphony No 25
Strauss Don Juan
Wagner Prelude: Die Meister-singer
"An admirable picture setting the orchestra vividly in its city of rich and poor extremes" (Daily Telegraph)
"Solti is as ever compulsively viewable, both on the podium and as a talker" (The Times)
Co-production by BBCtv and RM Productions, Munich
A film about the North East's best-known cartoon character, his creator Reg Smythe, and the town of Hartlepool where they both come from.
Andy Capp first appeared in the Daily Mirror in 1957: he is now syndicated in 42 countries and in 13 different languages. Despite Andy's fame, Reg Smythe firmly resists any attempts to analyse him -'I never try to explain Andy Capp or make excuses for him: he and I look at life from the same point of view - we come from the same environment.'
Starring Alan Alda as Hawkeye, Wayne Rogers as Trapper John, two young surgeons who work in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital
Hawkeye only wants a pint of Frank's blood. Not much to ask and it's all in a good cause. But it is a fairly safe bet that stingy Frank will refuse even such a paltry donation, so Hawkeye helps himself - and gets the shock of his life...
