The True Life Story of Andy Capp

on BBC Two England

A film about the North East's best-known cartoon character, his creator Reg Smythe, and the town of Hartlepool where they both come from.

Andy Capp first appeared in the Daily Mirror in 1957: he is now syndicated in 42 countries and in 13 different languages. Despite Andy's fame, Reg Smythe firmly resists any attempts to analyse him -'I never try to explain Andy Capp or make excuses for him: he and I look at life from the same point of view - we come from the same environment.'
