Today the Open University holds a unique ceremony for the installation of its second Chancellor and the conferring of its first undergraduate and honorary degrees. Over 600 new graduates from all parts of Britain will be presented to the Chancellor, Lord Gardiner, at a Congregation to be held in the Great Hall at Alexandra Palace.
Among those receiving the honorary degree of Doctor of the University are

Lord Campbell of Eskan
Richard Hoggart and Baroness Lee of Asheridge, who replies on behalf of the honorary doctors.
