In 1763 the novelist Tobias Smollett took the Grand Tour, from Boulogne to Paris, south to the Mediterranean, and across to Rome - hating most of what he saw. In this film William Fox follows Smollett's route and written account of the journey. The words are 18th-century. The camera looks at places as they are today.

A series of BBCtv programmes which viewers have particularly asked to see again.

Tonight: The Secret Battle for Heavy Water
Thirty years ago nine saboteurs completely destroyed the heavy-water stocks at the hydro factory in Telemark in German-occupied Norway. Wrote Churchill - 'What rewards are to be given to these heroic men?' Tonight's film tells the story of an undercover war, which ended with the sinking of a ferry in a Norwegian lake, fought to prevent the possibility of a German atomic bomb.

"A beautifully photographed film, a fascinating documentary." (The Times)
"The most gripping account of sabotage." (Sunday Times)
"It recaptured the excitement of the operation and its cold courage with a fidelity that clenched the stomach." (Daily Mail)
"The documentary was a classic." (Guardian)
