Introduced by Magnus Magnusson

'There occurred violent earthquakes and floods and in one terrible day and night the island of Atlantis disappeared beneath the sea.' Plato's legend of a lost idyllic land has haunted man's imagination for centuries. Excavations on Santorini - a volcanic island 60 miles north of Crete in the Aegean - have revealed a buried Minoan city. Like Pompeii it is preserved under a mantle of pumice and ash. About 3,500 years ago the volcano of Santorini erupted; part of the island disappeared beneath the sea and the Minoan civilisation on Crete was destroyed.
Does the buried city on Santorini hold the clue to lost Atlantis? Chronicle cameras try to find the answer.
