The Gaiety Theatre is no more, but Ruby Miller, at 82, is alive and well and living in Bognor Regis. She had more than 500 proposals - all of them decent. There was only one rule for the Gaiety Girls. 'You may accept flowers, chocolates, fruit; you may accept gloves, furs, jewels, houses, yachts... But never money.'

Tonight's film in this season of British films by some of the distinguished directors and writers who brought a new style to the cinema in the 60s
Starring Rita Tushingham, Ray Brooks, Michael Crawford, Donal Donnelly

Colin, a young man without it, seeks advice from the accomplished Tolen who most definitely has it - the knack with women, that is. The arrival of innocent Nancy from the provinces provides an opportunity for Colin to try out Tolen's recipe for success.
Dick Lester's inventive direction and the principal players' zest and obvious enjoyment all contribute to give this award-winning film unmistakable individuality.

How dangerous is the cult of witchcraft?
Is there really a supernatural power - a power in conflict with the Church? Or is it self-delusion, and a kind of madness - due to man's confused understanding of himself?
Michael Bakewell examines the surprising evidence of what goes on today - from coven meetings in basement flats to the desecration of churchyards and even suspected murder.
