"Racked by a growing awareness that I must soon decide whether or not I can go on in the face of the actual situation. What a bloody awful decision - to chuck it in at this stage, what a bloody awful decision..."

Donald Crowhurst's log-book, 15 November 1968, two weeks after setting out on the Round-the-World yacht race. Why then had he got himself into this situation? And why did the attempted solution end in his disappearance?
Tonight's documentary supplies the answers, using the tapes, films, and logs recorded by Crowhurst and found in his abandoned boat on 10 July 1969.

Three plays by Don Shaw

Val is in her mid 30s and a victim of the loneliness of suburbia. She is still reasonably attractive but her youth is seeping away. Her marriage to Reg has reached stalemate, and when she meets a young aspiring pop singer she sees an opportunity of recapturing a little of her past when she used to sing around the Midland clubs. But it is not to work out that way.
