This week's programme in the series on man and science today.

Cosmetics, the advertisements assure us, can make us more beautiful, more alluring than ever. We don't entirely believe them, but the very hope that even some of the claims may be true sends us out to spend £100 million yearly on cosmetics - costing as much as £56 a pot.
But, apart from hope, just what are we buying with our money? Are moisturisers really effective in nurturing the skin? Is there really anything that can be done to arrest balding in men?
Tonight's programme, the first of a new series, examines some of the claims made by the manufacturers and looks at the complex industry surrounding them.
