Are you afraid of spiders? Do open spaces terrify you? Would you panic if the lift stopped between floors? What do you feel about tall buildings-or pigeons? Irrational fears confine thousands of people to their homes. If they leave the house, they may suffer panic, faintness, and palpitations. Why people get phobias and what can be done to help them are among the points discussed in the programme by two psychiatrists.

'Pain is not purely physical' (a doctor)
'The only thing I know about pain is that it hurts like hell' (a patient)
'I think that the relief of pain is what medicine is all about' (a doctor)
Pain is usually thought of as a purely physical problem, something that a pill or an injection will relieve. But new research work suggests that pain is closely connected with personality, mood, and psychology. How we think can profoundly affect how we feel. Some of the doctors in this programme believe it may be time to reconsider the place of pain relief in the order of medical priorities, and to devote more effort to understanding the problems of pain
