In another of a series of concerts focusing on the double concerto, Richard Hosford and Rachel Gough are the soloists in Richard Strauss 's version of the tale of Beauty and the Beast -the Due tt-Concertino casts a solo clarinet as a dancing princess and a solo bassoon as an obnoxious bear, alias the handsome prince. Modern Jazz Quartet. Founded in the early fifties by pianist John Lewis and Milt Jackson (vibraphone), with bassist Percy Heath and drummer Connie Kay in place by 1955, the quartet chartered new ground in jazz and disbanded in 1974. They reformed in 1982 and were recorded the following year by the BBC at the Dominion Theatre in London. Julian Joseph introduces highlights from that concert and archive interviews with Jackson and Lewis.
