From Glasgow's City Hall, Kirsteen McCue and Gerard McBurney introduce the final concert in the cycle of Rachmaninov's symphonies. Before the interval Osmo Vanska conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in works by Rimsky-Korsakov, whose music greatly influenced Rachmaninov's own, and by Bartok.
Rachmaninov's magnificently nostalgic symphony completes the programme.

Pete Townshend , whose play with music,
Lifehouse, is to be premiered on Radio 3 next Sunday. Townshend began Lifehouse as a sequel to his rock opera Tommy in 1971 but has developed it for radio. Set in the industrial wastes of Britain on the last day of the millennnium, it explores the impact of music on the marginalised and spiritually hungry.

Verity Sharp presents music from percussionist Paul Clarvis , from Scottish singer Sheena Wellington and a classic from 1975, Gavin Bryars 's Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet.

Alyn Shipton presents the second of two sets by Barbara Thompson 's Paraphernalia.
