Gabriele D'Annunzio described himself as a frantic poet and an indefatigable narrator of dreams. He was also an aesthete, who carried about with him on his numerous travels a kit with rugs, drapes and cushions to make even the most austere hotel room into a home. D'Annunzio also called himself an ardent lover of beautiful women, so perhaps it is not too difficult to conjecture what went on among those soft furnishings.
