Aesthetes
With Peggy Reynolds.
Gabriele D'Annunzio described himself as a frantic poet and an indefatigable narrator of dreams. He was also an aesthete, who carried about with him on his numerous travels a kit with rugs, drapes and cushions to make even the most austere hotel room into a home. D'Annunzio also called himself an ardent lover of beautiful women, so perhaps it is not too difficult to conjecture what went on among those soft furnishings. Music includes excerpts from: Tosti A Vucchella

With Misha Donat.
Der Freischutz (Overture; Act 2) "The music is wild but often beautiful. When the magic bullets are cast, they fill the stage with all sort of horrors - owls flapping their wings, toads jumping about, ghostly hunters in the clouds - while every now and again comes a crashing discord." Russell Davies presents a history of jazz, from its earliest stirrings to the end of the millennium.
18: The Death of the Jazz Age
The so-called Jazz Age more or less ended with the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and the onset of economic depression. Coinciding with the deaths of iconic pioneering musicians like Pinetop Smith, Bix Beiderbecke and Bubby Miley , it created a sense of loss which was echoed by a feeling that twenties chordal progressions were all played out.
