(1681-1767)
Telemann was the most successful composer working in Germany during the first half of the 18th century. After years in the doldrums, only now is his music once again getting the recognition it deserves. Simon Heighes looks at one of the most extraordinarily creative personalities of the Baroque. 1: Gulliver's Travels. Telemann was a passionate European. His music not only drew on the sophisticated styles of France and Italy but was also infused with the energy of Polish folk music
"in all its barbaric beauty", as he put it. Simon Heighes introduces a musical grand tour, including works written during Telemann's stay in Paris, the trilingual opera Orpheus, and the Gulliver Suite, with its outrageous
Wild Dance of the Untamed Yahoos.
