With Donald Macleod. Possibly the most famous work of literature to emerge from Spain is The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. The episodes of the Knight of the Doleful Countenance - tilting at windmills, attacking a procession of monks and professing his love for the unattainable Dulcinea - have acquired almost mythic status and inspired music from Purcell to Ravel.

Scotland. They are performed by two of the finest young Scottish singers of their generation, Lisa Milne
(soprano) and Jamie MacDougall (tenor), accompanied by Roger Vignoles (piano) and Sioned Williams (harp). Marjorie Kennedy Frazer brought a cosmopolitan sophistication to her arrangements of Hebridean song, while Hamish MacCunn explored the full gamut of song, from music hall and operetta to art song.

A Musical Offering
Tommy Pearson continues to try to solve some of Bach's musical puzzles in A Musical Offering, a collection of 13 works consisting of ricercars - elaborate compositions in the fugue style - and canons on a theme given to the composer by Frederick the Great of Prussia in 1747. He enlists the help of expert George Pratt.
