Paul Sacher
Denis McCaldin talks to the Swiss musical philanthropist and conductor Paul Sacher. In the twenties, Sacher formed the Basle Chamber Orchestra to explore music both old and new.
As well as conducting music from the years before Mozart, Sacher became the patron of modern music, commissioning new works from composers such as Strauss, Bartok, Stravinsky and Martinu. Music includes:

Music and intuition have been linked for centuries in ancient cultures, but it has taken the western world of serious music a long time to acknowledge its power. Prokofiev and Scriabin began to experiment, but Cage and Stockhausen took things a whole lot further. Tommy Pearson finds out what happened when intellect met intuition.
