Paul Sacher
Denis McCaldin talks to the Swiss musical philanthropist and conductor Paul Sacher. In the twenties, Sacher formed the Basle Chamber Orchestra to explore music both old and new.
As well as conducting music from the years before Mozart, Sacher became the patron of modern music, commissioning new works from composers such as Strauss, Bartok, Stravinsky and Martinu. Music includes:
