From the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Philharmonic's traditional concert of music by the Strauss family and friends. Conductor Riccardo Muti likes to mix old favourites like the Blue Danube Waltz and Radetzky March with interesting discoveries. These include a polka by Josef Hellmesberger , Mahler's rival as conductor of the Vienna
Philharmonic at the turn of the century, whose virtuosity as an 11-year-old violinist eclipsed the premiere of The Blue Danube in the same concert.

In New York, he talks to poet Richard Wilbur , who wrote many of Candide's lyrics, and in London, to Denis Quilley , who sang Candide in the first London production.
