Brian Kay presents the Vienna Philharmonic
Orchestra's traditional new year concert of music by the Strauss family, their friends and their rivals, live from the Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein. Lorin Maazel conducts works by Franz von Suppe and Josef Hellmesberger (son), as well as all the old favourites from Vienna's top dance dynasty, including the waltzes Tales from the Vienna Woods and From the Beautiful, Blue Danube, and the Pizzicato Polka by Johann Strauss (son).

July 1945. Schloss Immendorf is on fire, set alight by retreating Nazis. Inside, priceless works of art are being reduced to ashes, including many paintings by Gustav Klimt. Outside, Klimt's lifelong companion Emilie Floge watches and remembers. A monologue for radio by Rufus Stone , performed by Patience Tomlinson.

Live from the Met:
Rodelinda Grimoaldo has taken the Milanese throne from Bertarido, forcing him into hiding, and now has his eye on Bertarido's wife,
Rodelinda. But Bertarido is not dead, as everyone thinks: he's on his way back to Milan to seek revenge. The Met's production of one of Handel's most dramatic operas features a top line-up of soloists, including Renee Fleming and David Daniels.
