The first of thirteen programmes of highlights from the 1996 Proms at London's Royal Albert Hall.
Bruckner's glorious choral music was performed in the hall where the composer played the organ in 1871. Then Solti returned to the Proms for Beethoven's last symphony and its revolutionary choral finale. Solti declared the ninth to be "a masterpiece with an enormous, broadening horizon, where the history of music turned a page."
