In 1919 two works for viola and piano tied for a prize at the Coolidge Festival in Massachusetts. The casting vote went to the Suite by Ernest Bloch ; the runner-up was a Sonata by an English composer, Rebecca Clarke. In this programme, both works are played by the American violist TOBY APPEL , accompanied by PETER PETTiNGER. Between them (3.50*) Alan Frank talks about Rebecca Clarke ,, now in her 90s and living in New York.
