Sir Robert Mark was a policeman for 40 years before his retirement in 1977 as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police. His term as Commissioner included the Balcombe Street and Spaghetti House sieges and a massive campaign against police corruption. Today he talks particularly about his early years and recalls some of the formative influences on his career with the aid of his favourite music.
A concert recorded at the Queen Elizabeth Hall , London, last February, which juxtaposed Britten's last choral work with Baroque music played on authentic instruments.

The novelist and critic Susan Sontag 's life-long addiction to photographs has resulted In a series of reflective essays written over the past six years and now collected as On Photography. The book became a surprise best-seller in America and won the National Book Critic Circle Award for criticism, though she disclaims that it is a critical work. To write about photography is to enquire into the changing nature of the way we perceive the world, Miss Sontag believes, and in conversation with Philip French she discusses some of the issues raised In her book.
