In the early 1940s the Cracow ghetto was being systematically reduced by the Nazis, in one so-called ' re-settlement' action after another.
Janina Martinho , an inmate. was a child of 12 when the final resettlement day arrived. In the ghetto with her were the Kalfus family: father, mother, and Irene, aged 8. The parents made a brave plan to save the life of their child.
Janina herself miraculously escaped the final liquidation, but it is not her own story which she has written.
