Colin Firth, with locks dyed a smouldering black, is the perfect television Darcy, while Jennifer Ehle is the fiercely proud Elizabeth, equally as alluring in her empire-line dresses.
In the first episode Darcy puts Elizabeth's nose out of joint when he snubs her at the assembly dance, while the charming - and seriously rich - Mr Bingley (Crispin Bonham-Carter) sets all hearts, including the ambitious Mrs Bennet's (Alison Steadman), aflutter.
