Sally Magnusson tells the warm and moving story of Eric Liddell , the unorthodox but brilliant runner who in 1924 astounded the world with his Olympic gold medal and then caused consternation by going off to China to serve God - only to meet an untimely death in a Japanese internment camp. Almost 40 years later, he became world-famous as one of the central figures in the Oscar-winning film Chariots of Fire.
