The Last Moguls
Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus know how to make films the paying public Wants to see.
Golan is an ex-fighter pilot. Globus a former cinema
Projectionist. Seven years ago, they arrived in Hollywood from Israel almost Penniless. Together they now run Cannon, the largest independent film production company in the world, and owner of most of the cinemas in London's West End. This month they paid E175 million for the ABC cinema chain and Elstree Studios.
Dismissed by some as 'schlockmeisters' interested only in action, violence and Profit, Golan and Globus are admired by others as true cineastes and the architects of a new order in Hollywood film production. Writers, actors and directors like Norman Mailer.
Franco Zeffirelli , John Cassavetes John Frankenheimer.
Alan Bates , Julie Andrews
Charles Bronson , Lee Marvin Jean-Luc Godard , and martial arts hero Chuck Norris , are queuing to work with Cannon.
