For 20 years or more there have been 'big cat' sightings all over the UK. From sedate Surrey to the wilds of Scotland, ordinary people turn up at police stations claiming to have seen ferocious wild cats prowling the countryside. Mass hysteria perhaps? Or is there more to it? Judith Hann sets out to discover if Britain's wildlife now includes a large feline carnivore, and discovers that the answer is stranger than anyone supposed...
A Quest for Creatures of the Deep Ocean
Imagine sitting in an armchair, locked in a clear plastic bubble, for a journey almost a kilometre down into the Pacific Ocean off California. A crane lowers you into the water. Then, cut loose from the cable, your sub sinks. Despite huge pressures, a galaxy of soft-bodied creatures are revealed in the sub's lamps, drifting about as if in outer space. Many light up to produce a dazzling 'living' firework display.
