When a black boxer seems likely to win America's . heavyweight boxing crown for the first time, a massive search is launched to find a great white hope to beat him. The search proves fruitless and Jack Jefferson becomes the first black champion.
The Establishment, however, have no intention' of letting him get away with it: if they cannot beat him in the ring, they will put him down another way. Jefferson's white mistress seems a likely line of attack.
