British soloists who entered this competition, have fought their way to the final round. They have already won substantial prizes. Now they are competing for the title of Young Musician of the Year, an additional award and a trophy.

Early in 1979, JENNY LEwis and her team in the dress department at Marks and Spencer began work on the summer dresses now in the stores. The sales target was £38-million: four million dresses. But, as the team moved into final decisions on colour, price and style, the economy turned down. Faced with increasingly pessimistic retail forecasts, the ability of the dress team to respond and respond quickly was tested.
