The Heavyweight Championship of Great Britain and the Commonwealth
John L. Gardner (Hackney) Champion v Paul Sykes (Wakefield) Challenger over 15 rounds from Harry Levene 's promotion last night at the Wembley Arena.
This is the first defence by Gardner of the title he won so dramatically at the Royal Albert Hall last October by forcing Billy Aird to retire. Sykes, whom he meets tonight, is always exceptionally fit, and has recently sparred with Leon Spinks in America.
On the same bill European Middleweight Champion Alan Minter, determined to get back to Number One world rating, meets former Commonwealth Champion Monty Betham of New Zealand over 10 rounds.

Earl Hardeman is a rancher in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; a beautiful valley flanked by the majestic Teton mountains. He breeds Here-ford cattle - in much the same style that his father did before him - and he lives the cowboy's life we've come to recognise in ' Westerns '. He still uses horses to ride the range and herd his cattle and pull sledges in winter; he still milks his cows by hand - and butchers his own meat.
But times have changed. The influx of tourists and speculators has caused land prices to soar to $10,000 an acre, which is still only enough land to graze just one cow - in a good year. The ' Frontier' life is under increasing pressure to capitulate to the tourist industry - and men like Earl Hardeman are holding out.

X-Rays from Space
On 2 June the new all-British satellite, Ariel 6, was put into orbit more than 600 km above the earth's surface. Like its highly successful predecessor, Ariel 5,
,ne of its main tasks will be to study x-rays and cosmic rays from deep space, and it is carrying experiments from four British universities. Patrick Moore talks about this new astronomical satellite with Dr Leonard Culhane , the project scientist for the mission.
