Sweden's Bjern Borg , the first man since Fred Perry to win Wimbledon three times running, opens the defence of his title in the first of seven matches he must win in the next 13 days to became the first player since before World War I to win four consecutive Championships. Intent on depriving Borg of that henear will be the greatest names in modern tennis:
Jimmy Censors, the 1974 champion, and runner-up to Bars for the last two years;
John McEnroe , who caused a sensation when he reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 1977 as an 18-year-old qualifier, and who has become a dollar millionaire in his first year as a professional, winning both the Grand Prix Masters and WCT titles, beating Connors and Borg on the way; and Vitas Gerulaitis , twice a semi-finalist in 1977 and 78, whose match with Borg two years ago was acclaimed as one of the greatest in Wimbledon's history.
Since the last ball was struck 12 months ago, the All England Club have literally raised the roof of the Centre Court to provide an extra 1,000 seats, and prize money has gone up too - the Men's champion will receive £20,000. Commentators DAN MASKELL
