The Lawn Tennis Championships featuring
The First Round of The Ladies' Singles
The Champion, the Czech-born American Martina Navratilova , opens the defence of her title on the Centre Court. Her greatest threat is likely to come from the girl she beat in the final last year, the newly married Chris Evert -Lloyd. The American, who has been in four of the last six finals, will be determined to win her third Championship; while young Tracy Austin has already beaten all the top players. The presence of the popular Evonne Cawley is sure to please her many Wimbledon followers. The delightful Australian won the title eight years ago as Miss Goolagong, and has been a losing finalist three times since. British hopes rest mainly with the Centenary champion, Virginia Wade , and Sue Barker , who reached the semi-finals two years ago.

Omnibus presents a portrait of Robin Cousins, one of the best free-skaters in the world.

Bristol born Cousins has repeatedly won his accolade, but so far the overall championship gold medal has escaped him.
We see him in Colorado, on a rigorous training programme, under Olympic coach Carlo Fassi and at the Wembley Centenary Ice Gala where Cousins and John Curry talk about the showbusiness side of skating.
Preparations for this year's World Championship in Vienna are followed by a filmed record of the whole event - a unique opportunity to see what television skating coverage usually misses out.
We follow the tensions of the compulsory figures - the event Cousins most dreads - and hear his own thoughts about his performance in the short and long free-skating programme.
Will the coveted gold medal at last be his at the next Olympics - or remain 'on ice' even longer?

Hands Across the Sea
The last of ten programmes about ways of improving race relations. Some British West Indian groups have developed links with the Caribbean community in Holland, who have immigrated from the Dutch ex-colony of Surinam. How important is it for West Indians here to make cultural exchanges abroad and to share experiences of post-colonial discrimination?
Made m Amsterdam, Utrecht and London, this film is a comparative study on the basic question: bow are colour barriers to be overcome in a multi-ethnic society?
