A new documentary in this series involving men of different nations who rose to the challenge of high command in the Far East.

He was a grammar-school boy in an era when the army drew its leaders from a few famous public schools. He came to command in Burma, 1942. He faced defeat and some of the worst campaigning country of the Second World War. His troops were in low morale and called themselves 'the forgotten army.'
A man of modesty and humour, he gained to a unique degree their trust and affection and led them through one of the most brilliantly successful campaigns of the war - the reconquest of Burma in 1944-45.
Those taking part:
Philip C. Pratt, James Alford, Colonel Ralph Barnwell, Lt Col Ronald Gibbs, General Sir Philip Christison, Maj Gen H.L. 'Taffy' Davies, General Sir Ouvry Roberts, Admiral of the Fleet, The Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Nigel Bruce, Lt Col Esther Somerville, Maj Gen Maxwell Dyer, Lt Gen Sir Geoffrey Evans, Air Vice Marshal Stanley Vincent, Charles Jenkins
Narrated by Frank Gillard.
